Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #22 : Attachment

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

That Restless Platypus : My drawing represents how, to me, attachment and affection can keep me grounded in reality (which can be hard for me sometimes) and how they help me try to express emotions and exchange thoughts. This is actually an happy drawing even though it doesn’t fells like it.

Eva : Attachment between two people. Are the hands moving closer or further away from each other ? The vulture looks like a bad omen but it is in fact an animal that lives with his wate all his life. It is a game about the ambiguity of attachment : both good and bad emotion.

Isn’t it funny how Naomi’s drawing has parts of both our drawings in hers ?

Naomi : My drawing represents the scary aspect of offering ones heart without knowing what we’ll get back : Suffering or Happiness.

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #21 : inhibition, Repression

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

That Restless Platypus : For this theme, I was already working on a thematic series of drawing on the theme “lost in my own mind” so I decided to include this subject in it.
This drawing is both a really physical and symbolic representation of the psychological concept of repression (Considering the heart, symbolic siege of emotions, enclosed in bones with give us our form and illustrate our social standing as well as being an Aristotelian prison for the mind). It is also that all too familiar feeling of burning pressure that I associate with inhibitions and repression.

Eva : My production tries to answer the subject  “Repression, Inhibition (and rejection)” Each character represents one of those actions. the sculpture “The rape of the Sabine women” By Giambologna is decontextualized and only used for the actions of rejection and withdrawal by the characters. The wider theme of the subject  “Lost in the mind” is shown by the corpses imbricated, disordered and tormented forming an S line with the continuity of bodies and stares. The 3 realistic characters appear in a chimeric space which, plastically presents the most matter.  Some force appears out of their heads, representing their thoughts, and keep propagating to take possession of their bodies.
” above matter there is thought, above thought there is the ideal” De Meissonier

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #20 : Fragmentation

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

ThatRestlessPlatypus : We had some troubles with our schedules for this one, only Eva and I could have been able to find the time to do it.  My version of fragmentation is about literary fragments and memory. I guess I could just put the same description I wrote in my previous post : here

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #19 : “Inquiétude” (Concern, worry, anxiety)

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

Eva : This drawing was inspired by E.Hopper, Hitchcock and Allan Poe but it’s more disturbing than anxiety.
Naomi : Brain and Heart, two organs that make us feel anxiety…
That Restless Platypus : This is a personal depiction of the feeling of anxiety caused by complexes and hang-ups leading to a never ending concern (un-quiet)

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #17 : Hide & seek

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

#17 : Hide & Seek

Eva : I was having troubles choosing between two ideas : to represent the say “To bury head in the sand” (to do the ostrich in French) and to illustrate someone hiding in a beast fur as does the artist Abraham Poincheval. I couldn’t choose so the two ideas naturally merged.

That Restless Platypus : This was a combo subject for me. Eva had hesitations between hide & seek or Halloween and I wanted to do a zombie theme as well as something to redo the forest one. This was the occasion to do them all.

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #15 : Stellar figure / Face of the night

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

#15 : Stellar figure / Face of the night

Eva : I like to play on different things. That’s why I started by drawing a constellation’s map. I like their personification. Only that fulfill the requirement for the theme but to re contextualize this map which is basically just the sky I placed a astronaut on a different plan and with a different technique.

That Restless Platypus : I basically have a metaphorical love affair with Selene.  Well, on my side anyway.

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #14 : Plethora

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

#14 : Plethora

Eva : This drawing has to do with the new school year, meeting many new people, being always surrounded by people, in a crowd of students, listening to teachers, writing line after line. plethora of meets and informations. I drew this during class with this ambiance using pens and a few colored pencils I had.

Naomi : When I heard about the subject I directly had cats, dogs or rabbits in mind… To me plethora of animals is heaven but to some it can be a nightmare. Also I wanted to try watercolors for the first time, that’s why it looks a bit sketchy.

That Restless Platypus : I’ll let you have your own interpretation on this one. I will only say that I took the subject in a very personal manner and that I worked much more on the symbolism than on the form. Just one other thing : Books ❤

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #13 : Clairvoyance

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

#13 :Clairvoyance

Naomi : A few years back I discovered myself a passion for everything “mystic” : clairvoyance, astrology, spiritualism… And recently I found a book about tarot and magnificent cards. I then started to immerse myself in this mysterious worlds. And I wanted to use china ink again so I decided to draw the first clairvoyance methods that popped in my head.

That Restless Platypus : I wanted to try something different with this one. light on symbolism but with a little game with myself with the fact sight and clairvoyance come from the same word in French. that’s why I’ve used vivid colors, high contrast and the crystal ball. (Also I really wanted to drawn fabric because of the Spawn animated show I watched recently.)

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #11 : Madness in colors

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

#11 : Madness (Folie) in colors

Eva : I was inspired by hands from the artist Egon Schiele where the characters have a disturbing and crazy look because of the body language and the skinny hands with twisted fingers. The hands show a state of crisis while showing the difficulty to break free from our own demons

Naomi : This was a cool subject. I had fun drawing it. Currently I love to draw hands and for this one I went back to my first loves : Dry pastels.

That Restless PlatypusWhat is madness ? There are so many ways to consider and represent it. To be really interesting I felt that the subject needed to say something about us, about our personal obsessions or fears.
