Street=Art : Lille

Observational drawing by That Restless Platypus

This is one of the most characteristic building in Lille : The chamber of commerce and industry’s belfry. It’s next to the beautiful grand place.

I went to Dunkirk in may 2016 so I spent some time on top of the belfry to draw this.

Street=Art : Berlin

The last stop of my “summer vacations tour” just after one that I haven’t shown you yet.

Berlin is a cool city especially when the light is dim and the sun has left to let the moon shine. But this doesn’t means that there aren’t some interesting thing to see during the day.

Street=Art : Pau

During my succession of travel this summer I went to Pau, a city in the south west of France.

There I’ve spent some time with one of my best friends who owns a page about how she discovers the city day by day since she moved there.

You really should take a look : The city is beautiful and the blog is both interesting and very educational. Actually she wrote an article about the castle you see in my drawing

It is called Pau 365 and you can visit it right HERE

Be sure to give her a like!

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #22 : Attachment

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

That Restless Platypus : My drawing represents how, to me, attachment and affection can keep me grounded in reality (which can be hard for me sometimes) and how they help me try to express emotions and exchange thoughts. This is actually an happy drawing even though it doesn’t fells like it.

Eva : Attachment between two people. Are the hands moving closer or further away from each other ? The vulture looks like a bad omen but it is in fact an animal that lives with his wate all his life. It is a game about the ambiguity of attachment : both good and bad emotion.

Isn’t it funny how Naomi’s drawing has parts of both our drawings in hers ?

Naomi : My drawing represents the scary aspect of offering ones heart without knowing what we’ll get back : Suffering or Happiness.

Street=Art : Lyon

One year ago I moved to Lyon for work. Since then I really learned to find this city gorgeous. Moreover there are a lot of things to do and there are an infinity of beautiful places to draw.

Obviously I’m a big fan of the Fourvière’s Basilica which is visible in both drawings.

Really you should come and take a look.

Drawing challenges by Tangomiva #21 : inhibition, Repression

Every time, 1 new compulsory theme, 3 mindsets, 3 ways to show it.

Drawings done by Eva, Naomi and ThatRestlessPlatypus.

That Restless Platypus : For this theme, I was already working on a thematic series of drawing on the theme “lost in my own mind” so I decided to include this subject in it.
This drawing is both a really physical and symbolic representation of the psychological concept of repression (Considering the heart, symbolic siege of emotions, enclosed in bones with give us our form and illustrate our social standing as well as being an Aristotelian prison for the mind). It is also that all too familiar feeling of burning pressure that I associate with inhibitions and repression.

Eva : My production tries to answer the subject  “Repression, Inhibition (and rejection)” Each character represents one of those actions. the sculpture “The rape of the Sabine women” By Giambologna is decontextualized and only used for the actions of rejection and withdrawal by the characters. The wider theme of the subject  “Lost in the mind” is shown by the corpses imbricated, disordered and tormented forming an S line with the continuity of bodies and stares. The 3 realistic characters appear in a chimeric space which, plastically presents the most matter.  Some force appears out of their heads, representing their thoughts, and keep propagating to take possession of their bodies.
” above matter there is thought, above thought there is the ideal” De Meissonier

Street=Art : Porto

Observational drawing by That Restless Platypus

I just came back from a few days in Porto and I’m feeling quite nostalgic. I would never have guessed that a city in Portugal would make me feel that way. Not that I don’t like the country but I’ve never felt a connection like  I did with Sweden or in Italia… Well, I do know.

This drawing is the Majestic Café, one iconic place to eat and drink in Porto and to me it will remain a symbol for the joy of new and unexpected meetings.

More from Porto soon…

Portraits : Sanguine – Humors 3/4

A long time ago I painted 4 self-portraits based on the concept of Hippocratic humors. Recently I wanted to revisit the concept by adding some personal symbolism.

Here is the sanguine part of me.

Beauty is harmony, passion is intertwining and great things hide in those details.
