That Restless Platypus : For this theme, I was already working on a thematic series of drawing on the theme “lost in my own mind” so I decided to include this subject in it.
This drawing is both a really physical and symbolic representation of the psychological concept of repression (Considering the heart, symbolic siege of emotions, enclosed in bones with give us our form and illustrate our social standing as well as being an Aristotelian prison for the mind). It is also that all too familiar feeling of burning pressure that I associate with inhibitions and repression.

 

Eva : My production tries to answer the subject  “Repression, Inhibition (and rejection)” Each character represents one of those actions. the sculpture “The rape of the Sabine women” By Giambologna is decontextualized and only used for the actions of rejection and withdrawal by the characters. The wider theme of the subject  “Lost in the mind” is shown by the corpses imbricated, disordered and tormented forming an S line with the continuity of bodies and stares. The 3 realistic characters appear in a chimeric space which, plastically presents the most matter.  Some force appears out of their heads, representing their thoughts, and keep propagating to take possession of their bodies.

Eva : This drawing was inspired by E.Hopper, Hitchcock and Allan Poe but it’s more disturbing than anxiety.
Naomi : Brain and Heart, two organs that make us feel anxiety…
That Restless Platypus : This is a personal depiction of the feeling of anxiety caused by complexes and hang-ups leading to a never ending concern (un-quiet)

#17 : Hide & Seek

Eva : I was having troubles choosing between two ideas : to represent the say “To bury head in the sand” (to do the ostrich in French) and to illustrate someone hiding in a beast fur as does the artist Abraham Poincheval. I couldn’t choose so the two ideas naturally merged.

That Restless Platypus : This was a combo subject for me. Eva had hesitations between hide & seek or Halloween and I wanted to do a zombie theme as well as something to redo the forest one. This was the occasion to do them all.

#16 : Confinement

Eva : I started with the idea of food containment but lacking inspiration I felt myself confined. That’s when I’ve got the image of the great Houdini. The one who escapes from confined spaces. Then I mixed the aesthetic of a magician poster and the one from an advertising.

Naomi : When I proposed the challenge I wanted to represent a feeling I often feel and I was inspired by Halloween at the same time. To be buried alive is one of my worst nightmares , I found this drawing to be a good representation of both this fear and my love for Halloween.

That Restless Platypus : This is my second try at this subject, I found the first one disappointing. This is a personal metaphor for the feeling of personal confinement and the difficulty to go from my imaginary world to the real one. Oh! and It’s also an homage to Banksy.
